So there are these 2 SAT word questions that I have a problem in translating them.
1) In 1994, twice as many boys as girls at Adams High School earned varsity letters. The book says this means girls=2(boys)
2) A rectangle is twice as long as it is wide. The book says l=2w
Now, The way I see this is that the translation of both questions are contradicting each other since I can't see the diference of the wording of the two questions. I need help in this. thanks

1. it's correct... it's just like: for every 2 boys there is 1 girl.
2. it is also correct... it's just like: the length is twice the width

1. Try putting numbers in .....twice as many boys as girls earn varsity letters (whatever they are)
so say there were 5 girls, then there would be 10 boys
so the number of boys is twice the number of girls
so boys=2*girls.....doh!
