In your sketch, the vertical angle is 48 degrees.
A property of intersecting chords is that the "average" of the measures of the arcs formed by the two chords EQUAL the vertical angle. So, the formula in your example is:
(1/2)(WX + YZ) = 48, but you know the measure of WX is 62, so plug that in:
(1/2)(62+YZ) = 48
62 + YZ = 96
YZ = 96 - 62 = 34 degrees.
