So.... Does anyone just happen to know who discovered the ruby throat? And what else he did for biology?

It is impossible to say who "discovered it" because it has been a well known species for many hundreds of years, long before the system of scientific classification was introduced. The species was among the first group of species named by Linnaeus, the creator of the system, who named it Archilochus colubris, in 1758, but he didn't "discover" it. It was well known for many centuries before his time.
