Simplify this expression.

(-3) ^2 + 12*4

(-3)^2 + 12*4 = (-3) * (-3) + 48 = 9 + 48 = 57

To answer this question I paid attention in my maths class

The order for simplifying expressions are:
1. Take out any brackets by applying these rules there first.
2. Multiplications
3. Divisions
4. Additions and subtractions

So in this case, multiplications first:
-3 ^2 = 9
AND
12 * 4 = 48

Leaves:
9 + 48

Then addition leaves you with 57.
