Evaluate the function given f(x)=x^2+1 and g(x)=3x+1 then it says f(2)+g(3)=

Similarly, g(3) is the output of g(x) when you substitute 3 in for x (which is 3*3+1).So, f(2) + g(3) becomes (2^2+1) + (3*3+1).-you have to plug the last one into one of the first two, forgot which sorry.......
Algebra 2 and I have no clue what its asking. Please help me!

-
f(x) = x² + 1

f(2) = 2² + 1

f(2) = 5

g(x) = 3x + 1

g(3) = 3*3 + 1

g(3) = 10

f(2) + g(3) = 5 + 10 = 15

The f(x) and g(x) denote functions. That means for every value of x that you plug in, there is only one possible output.

f(2) is the output of f(x) if you substitute 2 in for x (so it becomes 2^2+1). Similarly, g(3) is the output of g(x) when you substitute 3 in for x (which is 3*3+1).

So, "f(2) + g(3)" becomes "(2^2+1) + (3*3+1)".
