Almonds 3.50$ a pound
Cashews 9.00$ a pound
You wan to make a mixture of almonds and cashews that consists of 60 pounds of almonds. The mixture will cost $7.50 per pound. Without varying prices how many pounds of cashews do you add to the 60 pounds of almonds
This is what i set up, but it does not work
3.5(60)+9x=7.5x
If you could show me how you do this step by step I would be very happy!
Thanks guys and girls

Let there be x pounds of cashew.
There will be (x+60) pounds of nuts in the mixture.
Cost of the mixture will be $ 7.5(x+60).
Cost of cashew in the mixture is $ 9x.
Cost of almond in the mixture is 3.5×60 = $ 210.
Equating the costs,
9x + 210 = 7.5(x+60)
9x + 210 = 7.5x+450
9x − 7.5x = 450 − 210
1.5x = 240
x = 240 / 1.5 = 160.
You should add 160 pounds of cashew.

Ok, so you know that u have 60 pounds of almonds, and its 3.50 per pound, so
3.5(60) + 9(p) = 7.5 (60 +p)
where p will be the pound in cashews, You need 60+p because this will equal to the total weight of the stuff, not just the cashews like your equation had it.
So...
210 + 9p = 7.5p + 450
1.5p = 240
p = 160
so this will need to have 160 pounds of cashews
3.5(60) + 9(p) = 7.5 (60 +p)
where p will be the pound in cashews, You need 60+p because this will equal to the total weight of the stuff, not just the cashews like your equation had it.
So...
210 + 9p = 7.5p + 450
1.5p = 240
p = 160
so this will need to have 160 pounds of cashews

60 pounds of almonds = 60 * $3.50 = $210
total cost = $210 + $9(x).......................where x is the pounds of cashews
cost of pound of mixture = total cost / total pounds
7.50 = (210 + 9x) / (60+x)
(60+x)(7.5) = 210+9x
450 + 7.5x = 210 + 9x
240 = 1.5x
x = 160
160 pounds of cashews costing $1440
60 pounds of almonds costing $210
checking:
total pounds = 220, total cost = $1650
cost per pound = $1650/220 = $7.50
total cost = $210 + $9(x).......................where x is the pounds of cashews
cost of pound of mixture = total cost / total pounds
7.50 = (210 + 9x) / (60+x)
(60+x)(7.5) = 210+9x
450 + 7.5x = 210 + 9x
240 = 1.5x
x = 160
160 pounds of cashews costing $1440
60 pounds of almonds costing $210
checking:
total pounds = 220, total cost = $1650
cost per pound = $1650/220 = $7.50

close...
let x = lbs of cashews
3.5 * 60 + 9x = 7.5(60 + x)
210 + 9x = 450 + 7.5x
1.5x = 240
x = 160 lbs
I hope you are buying for a really big party, it is going to cost $1650.00 for all the nuts
