I am not looking for an answer, because this is not the actual problem. I am simply looking for someone to tell me how to do this. It is a similar problem, but I changed the numbers, because I want to get it on my own.

Two types of herbs are mixed to make a blend. The basil sells for $2.50 a pound and the thyme sells for $2.10 a pound. How much of each herb is used if they obtain 3lbs of a blend selling for $2.25 a pound?

The answers may not work out because I changed the numbers. Again, I just need to know how to do it! Thanks in advance!

Ok....

Always write the let statements

Let x = amount of basil in pounds
Let 3-x = amount of thyme in pounds

We know that we obtain 3 lbs of a blend selling for 2.25. This also means that we will sell everything for 2.25 (3) = 6.75

so Now we write the equation

2.50 ( x) + 2.1 (3-x) = 6.75
Algebra...

x = 1.125

3- x = 1.875

Therefore he used 1.125 pounds basil and 1.875 pounds thyme
