I have Attention Deficit Disorder, or something very close to it. Almost a year ago I found a doctor who prescribed me Vyvanse, 30mg. It's similar to Adderall. After awhile she increased my dose to 50mg. For the first time in my adult life I was finally able to complete a semester of college, and not only did I complete my classes, but I made honor roll. I took the summer off of school, and as always, every month or two I returned to my doctor.
I always intend to discuss with my doctor in a calm, composed manner regarding how I've been doing, and the benefits the medication has given me, but perhaps she has seen through my efforts to be calm.
Basically Vyvanse (like Adderall) is a stimulant, an amphetamine. It makes me very high-strung. I accept being made high-strung with this medicine because without it, I am a lethargic zombie.
Over the course of the summer I noticed that the 50mg of Vyvanse was no longer having the same effect on me. I was beginning to need naps again. My thinking was becoming slow and muddled again.
So I made an early appointment with her to request increasing the dose. She said, "I recommend you visit your Primary Care Doctor to schedule a physicial in case your iron may be low, which may be the cause for your lethargy. But sure, we have some room to increase your dose to 60mg."
Well I really don't think my iron is low, because I know what that feels like, and this isn't it (I guess I should take her advice and see a doctor about that, but frankly I've wasted so much time in doctors' offices just to have them tell me that nothing's wrong, etc, and I have a very full schedule already, and I don't have time for that).
As for the 60mg she increased me to, I'm still feeling extremely sleepy and slow and unproductive most of the day. There might be an hour or two when my productivity and thinking are good, but hardly the 14 hour boost that I was originally enjoying when I began this medication a year ago.
