Reduce 15/36 by multiplying the numerator and denominator by 1/3

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-07-19] [Hit: ]
When we perform the divisions both above and below the line, we get 5/12, or, if you prefer,12-15 x 1/3 =5,36 x 1/3 = 12 denominator,......
I will try to set the problem up as best I can. Yahoo moves the top 1/3 fraction a little over to the left for some reason. Its suppose to be right no top of the other.

15 1/3
---- X 1/3 = 5/12
36

Initially, we have:

15
__

36

We now multiply both the top and the bottom by 1/3, which will keep the value constant, so we have:

15 X 1/3
_______

36 X 1/3

or

15 / 3
_____

36 / 3

When we perform the divisions both above and below the line, we get 5/12, or, if you prefer,

5
_

12

15 x 1/3 =5, numerator
36 x 1/3 = 12 denominator, answer 5/12..............if I understood your question correctly. I'm not sure there was a question since you have everything right.

15/36 X1/3= rule is a/b X c/d= ac/bd that's always going to be the answer! 15/108 that's lowest form.
