Distinction between Britain, England, and United Kingdom

Composed of the country of England, Scotland, Wales, etc? And Ireland is its own little island and not part of Great Britain. So are Scottish people technically also British because they live on the island of Great Britain?......
Most of the time they're used synonymously, but i'm sure there's some distinction. Great Britain refers to the island mass itself, correct? Composed of the country of England, Scotland, Wales, etc? And Ireland is its own little island and not part of Great Britain. So are Scottish people technically also British because they live on the island of Great Britain? All these country are part of United Kingdom right, which is another country itself that encompasses all the countries of Great Britain + Ireland? So like, countries within countries? geez.

Kinda confused.

Great Britain is the island which contains England, Wales, and Scotland, which together with Northern Ireland make up the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland is part of the UK but the rest of the island of Ireland is an independent country. Together, the islands of Great Britain and Ireland are known as the British Isles. Think of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland as being like the states of the US. It's a bit more complicated than that and obviously they have a different system over there, but each kingdom has a capital (Scotland: Edinburgh, Wales: Cardiff, England: London, Northern Ireland: Belfast) and a certain amount of autonomy although the capital of the UK as a whole is also located in London. The capital of independent Ireland is Dublin, if you're interested, and yes anyone from the island of Great Britain is British but it is often preferred that you call people Scottish, English, Welsh, Northern Irish, or Irish.

Great Britain is the island made up of England, Scotland, and Wales. (Brittany in France is Lesser Britain). Ireland is one of the "British Isles". It would be a bad idea to call anyone who isn't English British. Technically they're all 'british' but the term is pretty much used for the english. The United Kingdom is the United Kingdom of England, Wales, Scotland, and North Ireland.
