...As you know, Brazil is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. But the United States is bathed by two oceans.......
Hi, I am Brazilian and I live in the state of Sao Paulo ....
As you know, Brazil is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean.
But the United States is bathed by two oceans.
Now a little question for those who live in the states of California, Washington and Oregon: How Aceano the Pacific?
It is very cold, very hot, natural waters?
Now a little question for those who live in Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Texas, Florida, etc..
How is the Atlantic Ocean? Ice cream, hot or very natural?

thanks...

The water bathing the southern U.S. from Texas to the west coast of Florida is the Gulf of Mexico. It's part of the Atlantic Ocean, technically, but we call it the Gulf of Mexico.

The Pacific Ocean is quite cold in Washington, Oregon and northern California. It's a little warmer in southern California, but nowhere near as warm as the equivalent latitude in the Atlantic Ocean during the summer on the east coast of the United States. You have to go down into Mexico to encounter water that's truly warm on the Pacific coast. There's not much seasonal variation in water temperature -- the water is always cold in San Francisco, CA, for instance.

There's a lot of seasonal variation in water temperature on the east coast of the U.S. The Gulf of Mexico is warm all year and so is the Atlantic Ocean off the east coast of Florida. The farther north you go from there, the colder the water gets as the seasons advance from fall to winter and the beginning part of spring. Then it begins to warm up until the water reaches it warmest temperatures in July and August. During these times, the water is warmer than it is anywhere along the Pacific coast of the U.S., especially from Massachusetts and further south.

This seasonal variation is actually influenced a lot by differences in the path of the Gulf Stream. During the summer, this water current moves much closer to the cost of the eastern U.S., warming up the waters quite a bit. Increased amounts of sunlight and warmer temperatures affect it also, but the influence of the Gulf Stream is quite strong. There is no equivalent current on the west coast so there is not much variation.
