The Bible speaks of mankind being on Earth for 6,000 years or so, but the Earth itself is much older. In fact the Heavens and the Earth were here before He even began the 6 creative 'days' or periods of time.(Gen.1:1-5) The Bible does not state how long the Earth was around before He began to do things to it to make it suitable for life.

I'm not a Christian, but this one isn't too difficult. In the time the bible was written, people had very little scientific understanding. The bible doesn't specifically say 6,000, but some very smart people have speculated that. This was just the natural time period that fell into place in the bible due to the scientific understanding. Notice how there is no dinosaurs, no mention of Pangea or other supercontinents, or creatures that came millions of years before dinosaurs? All based on scientific understanding.

Actually, that's only because the Bible (despite being the word of God), has been changed over time. The Torah, the Bible and the Qu'ran are all the true words of one God (Allah). With the the Qu'ran being the only text that has stayed in its true form and will always stay so. If you believe the Qu'ran is actually from God, you'll realize that the Qu'ran has no mention that the earth was created 6,000 years ago. It neither confirms or denies this, BUT the Qu'ran 100% agrees with science. So according to science, if the earth was created millions-billions of years ago, then this may definitely be true and it also doesn't contradict with the words of Allah in the Qu'ran. Remember, the Qu'ran is a book of guidance for ALL of humanity, a book that was revealed directly from God (Allah) to His final messenger, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), through Angel Gabriel. The Qu'ran is the only book worth following since it's the final and ever true word of God.

I'm a Christian and don't believe that god created the earth, I believe he was the reason behind the Big Bang so basically the earth is billions of years old. Not to mention the fact that scientists have way more evidence than Christians do

The thing is that the Bible does not say the earth is only 6,000 years old.
That is a particular interpretation of the genealogies of Genesis, first put together by Bishop James Ussher in the mid 1600's.
AND only about 40% of American Christians hold to that "young-earth" view.
So, as a Christian, I am happy to tell you that is not the conflict that so many skeptics and atheists seem to think it is.
