The total pressure of the tank is 10.0 atm. Determine the partial pressure of each gas in the container?-hi!!first find the total number of moles.......
A tank contains a mixture of 3.0 moles of nitrogen gas, 2.0 moles of oxygen gas and 1.0 moles of carbon dioxide. The total pressure of the tank is 10.0 atm. Determine the partial pressure of each gas in the container?

hi!!

first find the total number of moles...just add them up
nt= nN2 + nO2 + nCO2
nt = 3 + 2 + 1
nt=6

now partial pressure of gas x = (no of moles of gas x / total moles) x total pressure
PN2 = 3/6 x 10
PN2 = 5 atm

PO2 = 2/6 x 10
PO2 = 3.33 atm

PCO = 1/6 x 10
PCO = 1.66 atm

so there you go............ those are the partial pressures of N2 O2 CO..........

:) ^_^
