I just finished the first quarter of Sophomore year...and I got a D in OChem 51A.

To take Biochemistry, you have to be enrolled in OChem 51B at the same time - which won't be happening for me, since I did not pass 51A.

Does anyone know how this will affect my graduation timeline, and whether or not they can make an exception for the Biochemistry enrollment?

The only thing that you could try to do is to take the first half of O-chem at a community college during the spring or the summer and transfer those units to UCI. However, you will need to meet up with your counselor and work out a plan because it may not be as easy as that. In any case, I recommend you to start getting into study-mode because it only gets tougher from now on.

BTW, you are not allowed to take any upper division chem classes (analytical, inorganic, physical, nuclear) without passing all of O-chem and unfortunately, you can't really take any higher level biochem class (including molecular bio and immunology) without passing biochem first. So that advice given by the prior person is not applicable here.

I don't go to UCI (not too sure what that stand for, honestly), but as a chem major, I might be able to offer advice. Look at what gen-ed requirements you need to fulfill and double up on those. You could also look at taking other classes required for your major, ex analytical chemistry/physical chesmitry if you're a chem major, maybe vertabrate morphology or something if you're bio. Then you'll just have to double up on science classes next year. It's going to suck, but if you want to graduate in four years...

You have to pass ball your courses to gradcuate. That is common knowledge, unless you are a superstar in athletics, and lucky. Each university has its own rules. Goodluck
