are we ever going to build a permanent moon base?
i mean after iss that seems the next logical step forward in learning to inhabit space and its different environments

answers:
Ronald 7 say: It looks like we are already heading there
But what about Mars ??
-
bubby say: If and when that happens the base will be for military and technological purposes only.
-
Sharon say: China has suggested that after three Apollo type landings starting as early as 2024 they will construct a permanent base
-
John P say: Nobody can know for sure. It is always a political decision to commit the huge funds needed for that sort of thing. Might Trump prefer to build a wall or start a new space race?
In the early 1960s President Kennedy committed the USA to the enormous expense of landing men on the Moon by 1969 because the Russians had already got most of the other "firsts" in the space race - first satellite, first animal in space, first man, first woman.
-
Alexander say: Probably.
-
Jeffrey K say: I'm sure we will, but I don't know when.
-
Zheia say: It'll be Moon Base Alpha.
-
Paula say: At the present time the answer to that is -- NO.
At least there is no plan afoot for such a base
I'm thinking that China is more likely to build a moon base than we are.
-
YKhan say: The next step they are talking about is building a space station at the Earth-Moon L1 Lagrange point. It's called the Deep Space Gateway.
-
John say: Unless we set up a telescope on the moon there's not much point in living there. In reality the next logical step is a working space station, Star Trek style. A place for constructing and outfitting spacecraft. We aren't going to Mars without such a thing, whether large or small scale. No rocket can launch a Mars mission in one shot.
-
Phil say: Yes. In 2045 you will build the first of three lunar colonies. I live in the second colony (LC2). Life is pretty good here, but the postal service is quite slow.
-
John say: Neil Armstrong already planted the American Flag on the moon and there is no reason to do it twice. Man on Mars is an exercise in futility. Man on Titan is just plain crazy.
-
ReductioAdAstronomicus say: Nope.
The astronomical cost and lack of benefits argue against it.
-
CarolOklaNola say: Yes but exactly when is hard to predict. First we need to finish building the next generation of rockets which have been in production since September 2011 and full sized Orion manned space capsule with a crew of 7. The ant science legacy of the Tea Party is still with us and is slowing things down.
2035 to 2040 may be overly optimistic. 2050. I'll be 97. l'll be lucky to be alive.
