If the sun is white and it is a dwarf why do they consider white dwarf stars different from the sun? Why isnt the sun considered white dwarf?

answers:
Ronald 7 say: Our Sun is a Main Sequence Star, do not mistake that
When our Sun comes to the end of its life and settles down it will become a White Dwarf
About the Size of Earth but still having Nuclear Fusion, instead of Fission

CarolOklaNola say: The Sun is considered to be yellow dwarf star because its radiation is maximum in the yellow green part of the visible spectrum and the Sun's surface temperature of 5800°F or 6000°K.
Yes, the Sun is white in color . Yellow is the complimentary color to cyan, sky blue.
The Sun's core is still actively fusing hydrogen protons into helium nuclei by TWO different in the core. The Sun is in hydrostatic equilibrium between the equal and OPPOSITE forces of pressure and gravity. It is still on the main sequence.
A white dwarf star NO LONGER has nuclear fusion going o. In the core. The outer conductive and convective layers of the dwarf star were blown off into into space be a helium flash when and the core of the dwarf star collapsed to become a white dwarf star with NO nuclear fusion occurring. The core is radiating and cooling off and will become a black dwarf star.

Clive say: The Sun is called a yellow dwarf because it radiates most light in the yellow-green part of the visible spectrum. Of course it looks white because it radiates at other visible frequencies as well.
A white dwarf is a totally different thing. It's older than the Sun, has already burnt out all its fuel and is only still shining as it shrinks under its own gravity. The Sun will become one eventually, but it is NOT one now.

Jeffrey K say: A white dwarf is a technical name for a star that has stopped nuclear fusion and shrunk down to a tiny size. Its material is degenerate matter where there is no space between atoms.
Our sun is an active star still doing nuclear fusion. It is sometimes called a yellow dwarf. It is a main sequence star.

∅ say: it is a yellow dwarf, technically (though not entirely accurately).
however, it typically puts out more GREEN photons than any other color. light just combines.
the atmosphere also makes it range between yellow, orange and red.

drake say: It is officially considered a yellow dwarf. Don’t believe me? Look up what a yellow dwarf is. But it is white.
-
Starrysky say: Wrong on both counts. Sun is a yellow-white star of much lower temperature than a white dwarf. And its size, compared to all stars we know about, makes it a small range star, among the dwarfs. But a white dwarf like Sirius B is the size of Earth. That is over a million times less volumes than the sun.
