nineteenthly say: Reflect on the fact that this planet has had life on it for billions of years. What are the chances that you happen to be alive when it comes to an end?

Manuel say: It may seem as if the whole universe is hellbent on destroying you but it isn't, just chill out for a while.
-
Jeffrey K say: Learn something about probability.
All those things do happen and could destroy the earth, but they are all very unlikely. The earth has been here for 4.5 billion years, and life for 4 billion years, but nothing has destroyed all life on earth yet. Its unlikely it will happen in our lifetime. Worry about something that is more likely.

Paula say: You consider the law of averages.
For 4.5 billion years the Earth has not ended because of asteroids, GRBs, supernova, etc etc
And I am assuming you are less than 100 years old, or have less than 100 years to live.
If the Earth has survived 4,500,000,000 years, then what are the odds it will end in the next 100 years?
Answer: 100 in 4,500,000,000
or 1 in 4,500,000
That is greater than nil -- but still a very small chance.

John say: Likely you were raised like a huge percentage of young people have been - to be afraid of EVERYTHING. The sooner you can get past that the better off you will be. Unlearning the crap you were raised on is a sign of adulthood.
-
Alexander say: An astronomer was giving a lecture in which he said the sun would engulf the Earth in 7.5 billion years, when a frantic voice in the back of the room exclaimed, "How long??!" The astronomer replied, "7.5 billion years." Much relieved, the man said, "Oh. Thank God. I thought you said seven million."
-
Ricardo say: You suffer from anxiety and the best thing to be done is seeing a shrink and starting to take some anxiolytic or SSRI. You'll get better.
-
Joan H say: Maybe it would help if you studied up on the age of the universe and learned more about time and how far apart in time some of the things you worry about are. For instance, the last time there was an incident that wiped out much of life was 65 million years ago when the the dinosaurs disappeared. There wern't even any people then and if you think about it, 65 million years is such a long time that nothing anything like it is likely to happen in the number of years in your life.

Jim say: Millions of years pass between asteroids that strike Earth.
No GRB or supernova can endanger life on Earth unless a star that could explode was close to us. Though, if Betelgeuse explodes in our lifetime, check to see if you need to protect your eyes from the UV.
