MARK say: It seems to me that you did not bother to read the article to which you linked in your second update. Nowhere in that article does it say the Sun will rise in the West. It does say that the Sun's magnetic field flips every 11 years. So it has flipped at least 4 times in my lifetime and yet during my entire life the Sun has always risen in the East.

Raymond say: The Sun's magnetic field flips roughly every 11 years.
Humans have known that for a couple of centuries (for at least 18 flips).

Because of the nature of the process, we know that these flips have been going on for millions of years.

This flip causes NO change in the Earth's rotation nor in Earth's orbital direction. The Sun continues to rise in the East.
Since some of us are more than 11 years old, you'd think someone would have noticed by now if it did cause the Sun to rise in the West.

---

Even the flip of the Earth's magnetic field (whever it does happen) will change nothing to the direction of sunrise.
The last flip was around 41,000 years ago and there is plenty of evidence that it did not cause the Sun to rise in the West.

---

There is such a thing as a "True Polar Wander". This COULD happen in more than two BILLION years (maybe long after, but certainly not before). It is a process that takes a few hundred MILLION years, during which the axis of rotation flips slowly until it can reach very high angles (this may be what is presently happening to Uranus) and could, if you wait around long enough, flip all the way around (this is what may have happened to Venus over a period of over 3 billion years). This has nothing to do with magnetism. It is a very slow process that is due to the effect of other planets' gravity on the equatorial bulge.

When THAT happens, THEN the Sun will be rising in the West. And that process is one that NASA could understand.

NASA knows that the flip of the Sun's magnetic field does NOT cause anything to Earth's rotation.

Jeffrey K say: No, they never said that.
-
paul say: myth
-
Clive say: Clearly you have no idea what NASA is.
-
billrussell42 say: are you really that dumb? difficult to believe anyone could be that dumb.
-
az_lender say: No, NASA has never said that.
-
Nyx say: nope
-
tham153 say: of course NASA never said such an idiotic thing, and only the most hopelessly ignorant dolts would even circulate such nonsense. any time you want to know what NASA has to say go to their website, www.nasa.gov
-
Ed Gein Jr. say: Yes, if the Earth's magnetic field reverses, the north and south poles will switch making east west.

Yes, Mr. Muhammad is correct, but don't worry, when the Earth turns upside down we will all fall off and flash freeze in outer space before we even know what hit us.
-
Adullah M say: It would, if the axis of the earth tilt from north to south.
-
Acetek say: no
-
poldi2 say: No, NASA said no such thing.
-
Bill-M say: NASA never said that. You have been reading fake news.
-
CarolOklaNola say: NASA never said that. Yes , this IS another viral internet myth.

The Sun's magnetic poles flip every 9 to13 years, sometimes 15 years. The sun is a slightly variable star. Earth's MAGNETIC poles flip but it takes THOUSANDS to TENS of thousands if years fir that to happen. The MAGNETIC POLARITY flips of Earth and the Sun are NOT correlated with each other. You are conflating TWO or more different things with each other. Earth's geographic rotational poles DO NOT flip.

NASA did NOT say EARTH'S ROTATIONAL poles are going to flip OR that the Sun is going to rise in the west.
