No need for explanation, those who understand will reply.
I'm looking for some additional links on the matter. Has it been discussed by anyone credible, since the release?

The only news network that did cover this is ibtimes. Funny how people buy all the fake crap in masses and when the actual unidentified object is spotted, no one cares :)
As for the Phobos comments above, they probable don't even know how Phobos looks. Typical web smarties, when they can't explain something in the sky they discard it with a satellite, without even checking it...

I briefly verified the location from background star messer-1417 ..yes it is Phobos, This delay in imagining is consistent with (RIGHT.B), this image was taken in correlation with a current rise in the solar activity to asses the "speck" that accrue from solar radiation, this was to allow for a greater understanding of the difference between solar (the sun's) radiation compared to cosmic (distant high energy) radiation., With the current rise in public awareness NASA is going to need to explain better.....way better why they are doing the things there doing..,This would really help deviate a lot of mysterious hypothesis., Some times I think they let it remain a mystery the get the public interested..
I could leave you a link but alls your ganna get is pics.. only way to find out why it's like that is if you know how to peace together the daily schedule of the rover and of NASA's internal interest for present inquiries.

You mean the one where Phobos (one of Mars' natural satellites) passes within the Navcam's field of view?

When seen as part of a _sequence_ it is quite obvious that this is a time exposure of Mars' moon Phobos setting. I was able to reproduce this image almost exactly using Starry Night software.
