I'm mostly asking because when I hear things like this, my level of anxiety goes through the roof and I start thinking of the worst case scenario. ._. So... will there be an asteroid hitting the earth this year? [November, I guess since that's what I hear?]

The Earth gets hit by space rocks several times every day. 99% of the time no one even notices. There's even a TV show about guys who go out in the desert and hunt for them, so they can sell them. But if you are talking about a large asteroid that we can see while it's still in space, that is extremely unlikely.
There are a lot of people, computers and telescopes searching the skies every night for asteroids, and we are getting close to finding all of them. We have definitely found all of the *really* big ones, and all of them that should come close to Earth within the next 30 years or so. And we will keep looking, until we find them all.
Edit: everything that 'Bella' just said is nothing but male cow droppings. Nothing is going to happen on December 21, 2012 except for a bunch of stupid people running around screaming. And a bunch of Christmas shopping.

http://www.spaceweather.com/ has a section where they track all Near Earth Asteroids. Read it.
Asteroid Apophis is a Near-Earth asteroid that caused a brief period of concern in December 2004. Initial observations indicated a small probability that it would strike Earth in 2029. Additional observations provided improved predictions that eliminated the possibility of an impact in 2029. However, a possibility remained that during the 2029 close encounter; Apophis would pass through a gravitational keyhole and alter its course which would set up a future impact on APRIL 13th 2036.
Further observations in 2006 and 2009 have the odds of an impact at 1 in 250,000. It will be worth watching as it fly’s by at 18,000 miles.
