What up with the "next-to-last" space launch? No more going into space

Its just that manned missions are now seen as antiquated and unnecessary for scientific discovery. Instead manned spaceflight will be turned over to the diapers and vomit brigade in the private sector.http://en.wikipedia.http://en.wikipedia.......
NASA is definitely committed to going into space. It's just that manned missions are now seen as antiquated and unnecessary for scientific discovery. Instead manned spaceflight will be turned over to the diapers and vomit brigade in the private sector.

NASA already has the following missions developed and almost ready to launch:

In fact here is a list of planned launches:
http://www.nasa.gov/missions/highlights/…

You can see that there is plenty going on. NASA also needs to maintain it's existing missions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawn_missio…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler_miss…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassini_mis…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_horizon…

And has the following missions under consideration, including:

So NASA is actually doing very well. Now that it is not financially handicapped by manned missions we should see a return to what NASA does best: high quality space exploration, new scientific discoveries and amazing images.

Cheers!

As has been answered here countless times, this is the "next-to-last" SHUTTLE launch, not the "next -to-last" SPACE launch. There are far better, cheaper, and safer ways to get into space that using those ancient shuttles.
