Im in 9th grade. Im learning about the universe in my class, and i seem to be the only one who is actually interested in it. I feel scared to ask questions about why something is. We watched the space shuttle launch, i was watching it the whole time amazed about what was going on and everybody was being immature and goofing off. I also hear people say this **** is pointless why do we need to learn it. Well maybe you dont need to learn it, but how can you not be interested in universe at all?

Don't worry.
I think most of the top contributors on this site, as well as most professional astronomers went through the same thing at school. The lack of interest showed by most people will continue to be a mystery to you for many years.
I know I went through the same thing. I used to take astronomy books to school to read just for the fun of it, but people gave me such a hard time that I had to put brown paper covers on my books to get some peace.
When you finally go to University or College you will find that most of the people there doing science subjects will share your interest. Meanwhile just keep your patience and learn to be nice when under siege from the uninitiated.
Learning to get on with people with different interests to your own and learning to keep your cool under attack are very useful skills to learn. Try to think of the taunting of people around you as an opportunity for self improvement rather than as a nuisance. One day you will be glad that you learned these techniques, so start practicing them now.
Cheers!

That's cool that your interested in astronomy. i too, am into science. (although I am more into biology than planetary stuff) really, everybody's interested in different things. A lot of highschool kids don't really concern themselves with the way of the universe. Or they just don't understand how it all related to them and therefor blow it off as useless.

It is hard to get teenagers to think about things that don't affect their lives directly. Thats cool that you are into it. Alot of my friends laughed at me for spending a ton of money on a telescope until I showed them Saturn and a few nebulae and now two of them are taking astronomy classes in college.
