i know how to solve it
if i'm solving something and end up with y < - 7 and y > -14
how can i transform it into -14 < y < -7
and why?

Take the 2nd one, y > -14, and write it backwards like this –14 < y
(Think: If y is greater than –14, then – 14 is LESS than y)
Now you know that –14 is less than –7, so put them one after another like this with the inequality with the –14 to the LEFT of one with – 7 (just like it would be on a number line):
–14 < y .... followed by .... y < - 7
Now squish them together so the y's overalap each other ...
Voila!, you are done!
–14 < y < –7
Does this help? Cheers! ☺
