A blizzard is a snowstorm with winds that are equal to or greater than 35 mph (56 km/h), with drifting or blowing snow that reduces visibility to 1/4 mile (400 meters) or less. To be classified as a blizzard, these these things must occur for a long period of time. Typically, blizzards last three hours or more.

A hurricane is a tropical cyclone with winds equal to or greater than 74 mph (119 km/h, or 64 knots). They originate in the equatorial regions of the Atlantic Ocean or Caribbean Sea or eastern regions of the Pacific Ocean. Usually, heavy rain occurs in hurricanes.

Hurricanes can only form in tropical climates, and do not produce snow like blizzards do. Also, blizzards can have wind speeds far less than hurricanes can.
