i have a piece of Quartz that is one inch long. there is a vein of gold stretching that distance. how much $ would that be?

That would depend on the thickness of the gold. It will not be uniform, I don't think from one side to the other. I might consider purchasing it, but you have to realize it can't be worth too much on the open market.
