2.False.No speed = no kinetic energy.3.Yes.4.......
A ball is dropped from a cliff. Determine if these statements are true or false.
1. The magnitude of the potential energy (PE) of the ball depends on the height of the cliff.
2. Right before the ball is released kinetic energy is at its maximum
3. As the ball hits the ground kinetic energy is at its maximum.
4.the change in potential energy over the entire fall equals The change in Kinnetic energy
5. An objects position relative earth does not affect its potential energy

-
1. I would say true, but the magnitude also depends on where you set the 0 of potential energy... but I'm not sure if this question takes that into consideration.
2. False. No speed = no kinetic energy.
3. Yes.
4. Yes
5. False. Potential energy is affected by how far the object is from the center of the earth. The further away it is, the more potential energy it has.

-
1. If the question means the Ep at the top, then its true. During the fall however, its Ep depends on the ball's height above the surface that would stop its fall.

2. False. Before released, the Ek is 0

3. True. In the fraction of a second when the ball's height above the ground is 0, the ball's Ek is maximum.

4. True. The ball's Ep goes from mgh to 0 and its Ek goes from 0 to mgh.

5. False. Ep is always mgh where m and g are constant near the surface of the earth. Only h can vary causing Ep to vary

1. False
2. False, potential energy is at maximum
3.True
4.True, as kinetic energy rises the potential energy lowers at same rate
5.False
