Talk about how gravity in the region surrounding a big object in terms of effects on other masses in it.

Newtonian gravity is essentially a force of attraction between two masses. Showing that the heavier the masses - the larger the gravitational force between them. This force between these two masses is proportional to 1/d². The relationship between these variables is given by Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation (do further research if you don't know). A gravitational field surrounds all masses and the interaction of masses in this gravitational field results in a force between the two masses.
