Look carefully at this equation. what does x^1/2 equal? Its the square root of x! so for any value at x^1/2, y will always = the square root of the x value. for instance
4^1/2 = 2 (note that 4 is a perfect square)
now take
8^1/2 = 2.8284
so it doesnt matter what happens to the x value, but the y value is always the sqaure root of the x value.
4^1/2 = 2 (note that 4 is a perfect square)
now take
8^1/2 = 2.8284
so it doesnt matter what happens to the x value, but the y value is always the sqaure root of the x value.

You can try and punch in numbers to see what you get. If x = 2 then y = ..... If x = 4 then y = .... Or you could substitute in a new variable in for x. Say y = (2 * x) ^(1/2) Then you have to remember your multiplications rules. Is 2^(1/2) * x^(1/2) equal to (2*x)^(1/2)? You can always plug in numbers for x if you are having problems.

y is multiplied by 2^(1/2).
(xz)^(1/2) = x^(1/2) times z^(1/2).
if z=2, then (2x)^(1/2) = x^(1/2) times 2^(1/2).
(xz)^(1/2) = x^(1/2) times z^(1/2).
if z=2, then (2x)^(1/2) = x^(1/2) times 2^(1/2).

Y would be multiplied by 1/2 cause you would need to take the reciprocal.
