An aircraft is moving horizontally at 300 ft/s and is flying 400 ft from the ground.

If a package is dropped from the plane, how far horizontally does the package move before it hits the ground?

Thanks for any help!

Accleration due to gravity is approx = 32 ft/s^2

s = ut +1/2at^2
400 = 0 + 1/2 32 * t^2

400 = 16 t^2

Takin square root

20 = 4 t

t = 5s

We knw now that time is 5 s

Horizontally distance = horizontal velocity * time
= 300 * 5
= 1500 Ft
Hence the answer.
