Acceleration and average speed

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-09-21] [Hit: ]
.can some explain how?time to accelerate = 20/2.Vavg = 100/24 = 4.......
I start running from rest and accelerate up to 5 m/s in 20 m. I run the next 80 m at this speed. What is my average speed for the whole time I am in motion?

I got 4.17 m/s, but my professor got 4.21 m/s..can some explain how?

-
Vavg = total distance/ total time
acceleration distance = 20 m
constant speed distance = 80 m
total distance = 100 m
time to accelerate = 20/2.5 = 8 s
time to run 80 m at 5 m/s = 80/5 = 16 s
total time = 8 + 16 = 24 s
Vavg = 100/24 = 4.17 m/s ANS (assuming U accelerate CONSTANTLY :>)
