No, it is not sterile.......
I wanted to sterilize a pocket knife so i put it over flame a bit and i saw some black-dark brown stuff forming on the surface. I just wiped it off, but like, is it sterilized now? Wtf was that coating?

The lighter runs on gas, and the burned vapor is collecting on your knife blade. You want to sterilise an instrument, boil it for at least 10 min or put it in an autoclave. (Yes, I know, not an option.)

Its carbon. Why do you need to sterilize a pocket knife. No, it is not sterile.

unburned hydrocarbons and carbon
