are the images in mirrors and shadows matter...? i realize they take up space but they dont have a mass ? please explain

Well, they DON'T take up space. I'm not sure where you got that idea.
It is true that these images OCCUPY AREA, but area is not space. Volume in three dimensions is space.
Shadows are nothing more than surface zones that do not receive light.
Mirror images are nothing more than duplicate images of real objects, produced by the light path.
Also, "occupying space" is the LEAST IMPORTANT requisite for being matter. NOTHING FORBIDS a "point mass" singularity from being matter, other than this oversimplified "definition". Having MASS is more important. Mass *is* matter.
Anything that exhibits

Not at all, the images take up no space, it is nothing more than a reflection of or blcking of light.. A mirror itself is comprised of matter but not the image therein..
