I have a physics homework, and this is one of the questions, and it is for GCSE physics... the question is:
'State and explain one situation where it is better to use solar energy, rather than any of the other energy resources, to generate electricity'
I just need a basic idea of a situation, as far as I am aware it can be any sitauation... but nothing stupid please! :)

considerations:
- Given the power requirement, is there enough space for solar? To power a road sign or phone booth, sure. To power a car or kiln, no.
- What makes the other alternatives infeasible? Hydro is great near a waterfall, poor in the desert. If the location is hard to run wires to, then generation must be local. Batteries or fossil fuel power would need to be refueled on an ocean buoy, solar would not. Nuclear might be ok on a deep space probe, but if you put it in small devices in a city, someone might mess with it, intentionally or accidentally.
- How much sun will be available? In space, at least earth's orbit or closer to the sun, a lot. In California, pretty good. In Michigan, not so good. In a mine shaft, none at all.

When you need to power a radio repeater in the middle of nowhere and idiot rednecks keep shooting out the wind turbine
actually that was years ago when solar was expensive, now it's used to power parking meters when there's grid electricity a few yards away, just because it's cheaper to install

Solar energy is a renewable resource, unlike gas, petrol and coal, which will eventually one day run out. It can be used indefinitely, as the sun will never run out.

DURING THE DAY?
