Hello
I think I may have blood clots but I'm not sure. Sometimes, usually when I'm sitting, laying down, or am otherwise inactive, I get this 'jittery' feeling, usually in my legs. It's kind of hard to describe. It's like a kind of vibration, almost. Lately it's been happening in the same spot; my upper left thigh. It seems to be getting more frequent as well
Is this a problem? I'm worried that my blood may be clotting, and the jittery feeling would be a bunch of blood breaking through the clot all at once. I don't want to go see a doctor unless I have to. Thanks a lot

Hello Ennis!

First off, anything is possible without a personal examination...so I can't completely rule out the possibility of blood clotting disorder. If your family has a history of ischemic heart disease, peripheral artery disease (PAD) or anemia it would definitely be worth the friendly visit to your doctor.

That said, I'd like to offer the most likely cause. I'm extrapolating your description of "jittery" to mean painless. Clotting disorders, especially peripheral are associated with pain and loss of sensation. You can test this yourself at home by taking a small blunt object and making light 'pin pricks' against the surface of your skin. You should generally feel the objects location. Finally, you should look for a change in color of surrounding tissue. Provided you don't observe anything, it's most likely a nutritional causing micro-spasms (due to a deficiency of potassium normally). These can effect all your visceral muscles, but particularly the thighs and eyelids.

I do want to stress there's no substitute for a visit to the doctor. If you have second thoughts, or the 'jitters' continue schedule an appointment.

a dvt is usually accompanied by pain, you may be experiencing some nerve dysfunction, see a doctor.
