What is the study of drugs, and their effects on the human body called? What do you call a doctor that specializes in such a field and prescribes said drugs?

The degree that would apply here is pharmacology (not pharmacy -the training is very different) at the Ph.D. level. Pharmacology is research oriented and requires a heavy dose of science, especially organic and biochemistry. Pharmacy training is not directed at research.
