Why would a 75 year-old Woman be taking Prenatal-S Vitamins

However, this form of iron-supplement in older people isnt particularly effective if they have low serum ferritin and normal haemoglobin levels. At the age of 75 and without any further details on the patient, we dont know. The point Id make is, if she is close to death,......
So I have a simulation lab for nursing school tomorrow, and the Physician's orders says this:

''Prenatal-S Vitamin one tab daily''

That doesn't make sense. Why would a drug that's taken during pregnancy be listed for a 75-year old woman (the simulated patient in my case)?

Prenatal vitamins typically contain higher doses of calcium than daily multi-vitamin supplements. It could be a physician has ordered them for osteoporosis. They also contain higher doses of iron so perhaps the doctor has prescribed them for some form of anemia. However, this form of iron-supplement in older people isn't particularly effective if they have low serum ferritin and normal haemoglobin levels.

At the age of 75 and without any further details on the patient, we don't know. The point I'd make is, if she is close to death, has reduced her food intake, has anemia, etc then perhaps the doctor has prescribed this multi-vitamin supplement. There may be risks involved in the high iron levels being taken, but perhaps it has been prescribed with the intention of being a short term solution, with 'short term' having an unfortunate significance in this case.
