How much alcohol do I inject into mice

I'm doing a science fair project where I have to test the increase or decrease of ethanol in mice with activated carbon. How much alcohol for a mouse would be equal to 170 ml of pure ethanol (170 ml of PURE ethanol is equal to 10 alcoholic beverages) in humans? Would this high of a dosage be lethal to mice?

So rough a calculation of concentration is 170 ml / 70,000 g
That is approximately equivalent to blood alcohol concentration of 0.24%
Legal limit in most states is 0.08%. So that is about 3 times the legal limit for DUI.
Someone with 0.24% blood alcohol would usually be severely intoxicated or nearly passed out... but generally wouldn't die.

To get the same concentration for a mice you need to know the weight of the mice.
Typical lab mice weights about 20 gram

So 20g / 70,000 g x 170 ml = 0.04857 ml per mice

All the calculation above is a rough estimate. You can get more accurate blood level estimate by accounting for percentage of body fat in human and in mice to get more accurate "volume of distribution". But that is probably overkill for your purpose.

Before you unnecessarily put mice through this procedure for which the results are already on file, consult with the instructor and get approval for specifically any procedures such as this which you will be performing.
