or else proving you know the material by taking a more advanced chemistry course for which general chemistry is a prerequisite, which will show them that you did indeed learn the material. Its always better not to have to CYA later, but whats done is done so if you want to go to med school, its on you to prove you have what it takes.-Only if you get As in later science classes.......
Assuming you made those C's your freshman year.

Sure. As long as you cleaned up your act, have terrific grades in all other courses from that point onward, great supporting activities and a slam-dunk score on the MCAT.

Med schools aren't blind to the fact that not everyone is a perfect student from day one, but they're realistic about the process. People get in with blemishes on their records all the time; it all depends on what they've done to make up for them. (Retaking the courses is also not a bad idea, or else proving you know the material by taking a more advanced chemistry course for which general chemistry is a prerequisite, which will show them that you did indeed learn the material.)

It's always better not to have to CYA later, but what's done is done so if you want to go to med school, it's on you to prove you have what it takes.

Only if you get A's in later science classes.
