I knew I had a UTI from some symptoms I was having earlier today (distended tender bladder, burning urination, frequency), so I went to the clinic tonight like 2 hours ago and sure enough they said I had a nasty one..I had both blood and WBC in my urine. He tapped on my kidneys and I felt no pain. He prescribed Macrobid.

Well I just took my very first dose of the Macrobid, but NOW I'm feeling tenderness in my back, and like I'm about to get some chills, maybe a fever. I had NO fever at the clinic earlier.

Should I contact them back? They're going to close soon. Or just continue to take the Macrobid as directed? Will the Macrobid also help with a kidney infection or do I need to take something else???!!

I'm nervous! I don't want a bad kidney infection!!

Go back. He may want to change the antibiotic to something more potent.

You certainly can call them and ask questions, and if they've closed, they can have an on-call nurse give you a call, and sometimes the Dr. will call. You can also try calling the ER or urgent care.

Take your antibiotic, maybe a pain reliever if you can't sleep. Drink lots of fluids, especially cranberry juice.

problems from diabetes? Avoid sugar.
Get tested.

Macrobid has been shown to be very efficacious in UTIs (there is no reported resistence) and the same bacteria that cause a UTI just move up to the kidney. It takes about 3 doses to start being effective. I advise waiting as you can not call this a treatment failure after an hour of one dose. However, if you start vomiting etc you need to go to the ER. Keep drinking fluids, cranberry juice to modulate your urine pH, take motrin or tylenol and see how you feel after the second dose. If they sent a urine culture, they will test it for antibiotic sensitivity as well.
