Why is 0.8 and 0.2 equal to 1?

answers:
Krishnamurthy say: 0.8 + 0,2 = 1.0
-
Sqdancefan say: For exactly the same reason that 8 and 2 is equal to 10.
_____
It has to do with the meaning of place in a place-value number system, and the way sums are expressed when they exceed the value representable by a single digit.
-
Como say: 0 • 8 + 0 • 2 = 1 • 0 = 1
-
Gert say: 80% plus 20% more is 100%. Same with your numbers. Because 8 + 2 = 10, or in your case 1.0.
-
Φ² = Φ+1 say: 0.8 + 0.2
= ⅘ + ⅕
= ⁽⁴⁺¹⁾∕₅
= ⁵∕₅
= 1
-
Lou C. Ferr say: .8 + .2 = 1.0

say: Dont think of it like decimal numbers. Lets add zeroes. .8 and .2 could be 8 and 2. This equals 10. When you take away a zero from 10 you get 1. Or 80 and 20= 100. Remove two zeroes from the equation, and .8 +.2 =10. If you have .8(8/10) of a ruler and .2(2/10) of a ruler you have a ruler.

az_lender say: Think 0.80 and 0.20, that is, 80 cents and 20 cents. They make a dollar, right?

(Note that 1.00 means the same thing as 1.0 or 1)

Brainard say: 0.8 and 0.2 = 8/10 + 2/10

= (8 + 2)/10

= 10/10

= 1
