Explain Why is 2/3 is greater than 4/7?

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 17-03-13] [Hit: ]
youll have to multiple 2/3 by (7/7) and multiply 4/7 by (3/3) Which 2/3 will become 14/21 and 4/7 will become 12/21 , now, You can clearly see that 14/21 > 12/21 which goes back to 2/3 > 4/7-Krishnamurthy say: 2/3 = 0.6666.. 4/7 = 0.......

2/3 * 7/7 = 14/21
4/7 * 3/3 = 12/21

So 2/3 = 14/21
and 4/7 = 12/21

clearly 14/21 is bigger than 12/21.

nashat w say: If you unify the denominator ,you'll have to multiple 2/3 by (7/7) and multiply 4/7 by (3/3)
Which 2/3 will become 14/21 and 4/7 will become 12/21 , now,
You can clearly see that 14/21 > 12/21 which goes back to 2/3 > 4/7
-
Krishnamurthy say: 2/3 = 0.6666..
4/7 = 0.5714..
2/3 > 4/7
-
Erica say: 2/3 > 4/7

find the LCM for both denominators (3 & 7), 21.

to get 3 to 21 you need to multiply by 7.

to get 7 to 21 you need to multiply by 3.

what you do to one side of the the fraction, you must do to the other.

2/3 = (2x7)/(3x7) = 14/21

4/7 = (4x3)/(7x3) = 11/21

14/21 > 11/21

Φ² = Φ+1 say: 7 > 6, so 1/6 > 1/7, and so 4/6 > 4/7
and 2/3 = 4/6, so 2/3 > 4/7
-
J say: Multiply both by 3*7 and get 14 versus 12.
-
Ricki say: Hint. Convert so both fractions have the same number in the bottom.
-
Ellis say: .
-
karl S say: 2/3 = (2*7) /(3*7) = 14/21
4/7 = (4*3) /(7*3) = 12/21
Clearly 14/21 > 12/21
-
roger say: because 2/3 is 14/21 and 4/7 is 12/21
-
Mark say: 2 divided by 3 is .60 which is 60 percent, 4 divided by 7 is .57 which is 57 percent. 60%>57%
-
R T say: Convert to a common denominator:
(2/3)(7/7) = 14/21
(4/7)(3/3) = 12/21

See the difference?
