X - 3 > -9. How do I work out the problem

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 13-05-04] [Hit: ]
In this case, this would already lead you to your answer.Dont forget to usually treat your inequality as an equation. So, whatever you do to one side, you do to the other,......
The equation is;
x - 3 > -9.

I need your help, I do NOT want the answer. Can you please show me how to work out the problem to get to the answer? Thank you much.

You add the -3 to the -9 to get -6. So on the right side you have the x and on the left side you have the -6.
So, x > -6.

x -3 >-9
x >(3-9)
x >-6

Treat the inequality symbol (the > symbol) as an equal sign for now.

First, you add both sides by 3 to cancel out the -3 on the left side of the inequality, like in an equation. In this case, this would already lead you to your answer.

Don't forget to usually treat your inequality as an equation. So, whatever you do to one side, you do to the other, such as adding, subtracting, and multipying and dividing by positive values. Inequalities should be easy enough, once you get the hang of it, like equations!

NOTE: There is one large difference between an equation and an inequality, and that is multiplying OR dividing by a negative number to the entire inequality.

For example: -2x > 6
You have to divide each side by -2, AND FLIP the inequality symbol.
So, you would then get x<-12

This makes perfect sense.
Say that you have the inequality -3 > -4
and you multiply/divide each side by -1.
If you do not flip the symbol, you would get 3>4 , which is incorrect.
So that is why you have to flip it.

-
You would solve it the same way you would solve x-3=-9

You keep the > sign facing the same way too. The only time you flip the sign is when you multiply on the other side.
Ex.
3x>12
/3 /3
x<4
Hope this helps!

Move -3 to the other side but change its sign so it becomes +3 so x>-9+3 which is x>-6 thats all is something is being added to x you just send it to the other side and subtract and vise versa simple as that :)

-
x > -6

-
Here we work as an equation... isolate x and find the answer...

Just add 3 to both side and get x > -9+3 ==> x> -6 OK!

-
Don't you add -3 to both sides
