Does anyone know how to solve 2/x-2=3+x/x-2, they are called rational equations

you should bet 2 = 3(x-2) +xonce you eliminated the LCD.Now distribute to get 2 = 3x-6 +x.Separating constants and x terms you get 4x = 8 or x = 2 but that cant be a solution so this equation has NO solution.-Hi,2 . .......
I need so much help

OK Lindsey---In order to solve this equation you have to put everything over the least common denominator so you can eliminate it. In this case your LCD is x-2 but an answer of x= 2 is not acceptable because it makes the equation undefined.

Now multiply all terms by (x-2). you should bet 2 = 3(x-2) +x once you eliminated the LCD.
Now distribute to get 2 = 3x-6 +x. Separating constants and x terms you get 4x = 8 or x = 2 but that can't be a solution so this equation has NO solution.

Hi,

2 . . . . . . . . x
------- = 3 + -------
x - 2 . . . . . x - 2

Multiply every term by the LCD, x - 2, to eliminate fractions. Then solve.

2 = 3(x - 2) + x

2 = 3x - 6 + x

8 = 4x

x = 2

But, x can't be 2 because that would make the denominator equal to zero, which is not allowed.

So this equation has NO SOLUTION. <==ANSWER

I hope that helps!! :-)

I don't know what the guy above did differently, but x=1/2. Proof: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=2%2…

EDIT: One of ^v you guys want to explain this to me? I can't figure out how you're getting no solution: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=2%2… and the link above
