A pair of dice is rolled. What is the probability of getting a sum of 4

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-29] [Hit: ]
hence we just multiply 6 by 6 to get the total.calculating solutions for these type of probability problems is all about knowing how to count.-You have to see how many combinations you can get out of 2 dice for instance a 1 and a 1 then a 1 and a 1..........
I know the answer is 1/12, but how do I get the answer? Could someone please explain it or show it? thank you.

the answer is indeed 1/12. probability is the ratio of the number of ways to get the desired outcome to the total possible number of outcomes.

to get a 4, there are three possible ways: 1 and 3, 3 and 1, or double 2's

the total possible outcomes is just 6*6 = 36. each die has 6 possible outcomes. so for each of the 6 outcomes of the first die, there are 6 possible outcomes of the second die, hence we just multiply 6 by 6 to get the total.

so 3/36 is the probability which simplifies to 1/12

calculating solutions for these type of probability problems is all about knowing how to count.

You have to see how many combinations you can get out of 2 dice for instance a 1 and a 1 then a 1 and a 1.... Until 6 and 6. However many that is! Then figure out how many combinations can make 4 so 1 and 3 2 and 2. Then u simply put the numbers together like u have.... But I think u have the wrong answer noway is there only one way of rollig a 4 and deffo more than 1e combinations u can rollwith 2 dice.. Unless u have simplified the answer that is

There are 36 possibilities if you count the first & second dice separately:

1-1
1-2
1-3
1-4
1-5
1-6
2-1
2-2
2-3
etc, up to
6-4
6-5
6-6

To get a 4, here are your options:

1-3
2-2
3-1

So you have 3 chances in 36, or 3/36 = 1/12

The answer is 1/12 or 8.33% or 3/36

There are 3 sums that make 4.

Rolling two 2's

rolling a 1 and and 3

rolling a 3 and a 1 (reverse die)

David thinks that 3 and two make 4....lol

= 1 & 3, 2 & 2, 3 & 1

Probability in terms of fraction & %:
= 100% (3/36)
= 100%(1/12)
= 100/12% or 8 1/3%

Answer: 1/12 OR 8 1/3% OR 1:11 ratio

Favourable outcomes are
(3,1) ,
(1,3) and
(2,2) P
( sum of 4 ) = 3 / 36 = 1 / 12

-
there are 36 outcomes for rolling two dice
3 outcomes will have a sum of four

1, 3
2, 3
3, 1

3/36 = 1/12

-
1 in 8 or 12.5%
