Mechanics: Is this spring design possible

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-29] [Hit: ]
The diameter of the coils would decrease from one end of the other so that the small gauge turns could be depressed inside the larger gauge ones. At maximum compression it would be a flat spiral.......
Is it possible to make a spring that will satisfy the "weight to distance ratio" shown in the diagram from the website bellow? If so, what would be the shape of the spring, roughly estimated? Is it very complex and expensive to build such a spring?

The coil spring would be made of wire whose diameter would decrease from one end to the other.
