what i was thinking was, if the probability was less then 0.05 then its dependent but im not sure.can some one please help me?-Statistically talking, the opposite of independence is not independence.......
For my statistics class we have to set up a contingency table.

From my table, I found the following:
chi-square = 1.41
degrees of freedom = 2
probability = 0.495

what I need help with is how do i determine from here if my table is independent or dependent

what i was thinking was, if the probability was less then 0.05 then its dependent but i'm not sure.

can some one please help me?

Statistically talking, the opposite of independence is "not independence".

As 0.05 ≮ 0.495, the considered variables are independent.
