Write the equation of the line that satisfies the given conditions. Express the final equation in standard form.
Contains the point (1, -5) and is parallel to the y axis

Please help with this problem, I tried it myself but couldn't figure it out still. Thank you!

If the line is parallel to the y axis then it has no slope (not zero slope) i.e the line goes straight up and down. We know the line contains the point (1, -5). Since the line is vertical the only value x can ever have is 1. y can have any value but x must be 1. Consequently, the equation for the line is 'x = 1'

-
Since we are looking for a line parallel to the y axis, it is a vertical one, therefore the equation is

x = 1

-
Parallel to the y-axis means the line is vertical. The x-value will always be as it is in the given point.
Equation is x = 1
