So my problem is:
A building 35 feet tall casts a shadow 20 feet long. A person 6 feet tall is walking directly away from the building toward the edge of the building's shadow. How far from the building will the person be when the person's shadow just begins to emerge from that of the building? (Round your answer to one decimal place.)

The answer I got was x=16.5. But I made the answer 17, and got it wrong. What did I do wrong?

First determine how long the persons shadow is:
35/20 = 6/x
35x = 120
x = 120/35 = 3.4 ft
20ft - 3.4ft = 16.6ft
You did everything correctly, except for the rounding off.
