Relative to size it is the Hercules beetle. It can lift 850 times its own weight. But the strongest animal in the world would have to be the African elephant by compared to any other living animal .It has the power to knock over large trees and push through incredibly thick brush that other animals would have to move around, but the African elephants strength has never been truly measured as you could imagine it would be hard to test how much an elephant could lift or pull, and the blue whale though it is the largest animal may not have the necessary muscle mass or body build like an African elephant or a hercules beetle to actually lift or push objects so their strength cannot really be measured or even witnessed given the fact that there are not many things to pull, knock down, lift, or push in the open ocean

That is a vague question. I know you said animal, but would u like to include mammals as well? Primates are extremely strong and probably the strongest in their size. Elephants are the largest land mammal and the strongest I believe...but then again you said "Ever"...so its hard to determine strength of the animals that are now extinct.

If you want to do this the ol' pound for pound way then the rhinoceros beetle is strongest compared to it's body weight. It can lift something 850 times it's own weight. That would be like an elephant lifting a 10 MILLION pound object.

By 'ever' i assume you mean since the beginning of
life? If so, then it would be the blue whale, being that
it is the largest (100'000 kg).
@lamabuckeyefan, mammals are animals...
