35 = 35 Check.15 = 15 Check.So our values x (first number) = 25 and y (second number) = 10 are right.Anything else?......
I've been stuck on this for about an hour now and really need some help! If you don't feel like solving it, all I really need is the two equations from it and I can take it from there. Thank you SO much!
Here it is--

The sum of two numbers is 15 less than twice the first number. Their difference is 5 less than twice the second number. Find each of the numbers.

-
Lets say that the two numbers are x & y.

The sum of two numbers is 15 less than twice the first number.

x + y = 2x - 15

Their difference is 5 less than twice the second number.

x - y = 2y - 5

Now that we have both equations, you're going to want to use substitution to find their values.
Lets start with the first and isolate y.

x + y = 2x - 15

Subtract x from both sides.

y = x - 15

Substitute into second equation.

x - (x-15) = 2(x-15) - 5
x -x + 15 = 2x - 30 -5
15 = 2x -35
50 = 2x
25 = x

Now substitute x back in to find y.

(Substituting into first equation, where we isolated y).
y = x - 15
y = (25) - 15
y = 10

Now substitute both values into the equations to check if they are right.

a) x + y = 2x - 15
(25) + (10) = 2(25) - 15
35 = 50 - 15
35 = 35 Check.

b) x - y = 2y - 5
(25) - (10) = 2(10) - 5
15 = 20 - 5
15 = 15 Check.

So our values x (first number) = 25 and y (second number) = 10 are right.

Anything else? :)

-
first number=25
second number=10
